General School Rules, Regulations & Procedures

1.  Bags: Students are permitted to bring a bag to carry their belongings, which is subject to be searched. Items that need to be turned in are electronic devices and any money exceeding $10.

 

2. Building Evacuation Plan: In the event of a practice drill or an actual emergency, occupants of rooms should refer to the exit signs posted in each room.

 

3. Building Security: The building is to remain locked and secure throughout the school day. All students entering and leaving the building will be subject to a search to assure individual and building safety. Any person caught propping open a secured door or tampering with a lock will be subject to a consequence.

 

4. Canine Sweeps: School parking areas as well as common interior areas of the building may be subject to periodic canine sweeps. An administrator will be present at all sweeps.

 

5. Cheating: It is expected that all students will perform their responsibilities as students in an honorable fashion. Cheating, including plagiarism and unauthorized assistance on an exam, quiz, paper, project, etc. will not be tolerated. Any student who is found to be cheating will receive a grade of zero (0) on that assignment and his/her parents will be notified by the teacher involved.

 

6. Dress Code: We believe that a student’s appearance is primarily the responsibility of the student and his/her parents or guardian. However, students’ attire and grooming must not endanger their health or the safety of others. Additionally, the school cannot permit clothing that is damaging to school property, disruptive to the educational process, vulgar, obscene, advocating illegal substance or offensive to human dignity. Therefore, the school administration will determine whether or not a student’s appearance conforms to the dress policy.

 

7. Due Process: All students will have either an administrator or staff-assigned representative to complete due process for suspensions. If the behavior problem originally involved the staff-assigned representative, the administration will complete the process.

 

8. Entering Building: Students entering the building during the school day are to use only the side doors near the Office. Students must sign themselves in at the office.

 

9. False Alarm/Bomb Scares: Any student who turns in a false alarm or bomb scare will face dismissal and criminal charges.

 

10. Fighting: Fighting will result in consequences outlined in the behavioral program, including suspension. Students involved may be required to leave the building for the remainder of the day if it is felt a physical threat to others still exists.

11. Fires –Deliberately Setting: Any student deliberately setting fires in the building or on school grounds will face dismissal from school and criminal charges.

 

12. Forgery: Any student who uses or attempts to use a note, pass, warning notice, or other document containing a forged or altered item or signature of any authorized person will be suspended.

 

13. Ignition Devices: Students who have any ignition or incendiary devices in their possession will have the devices confiscated and can result in a suspension.

 

14. Insubordination: Insubordination by students will not be tolerated. Any student, who is disrespectful, threatening, leaves class without permission, fails to honor the reasonable request of school personnel, or other acts of insubordination, will receive consequences.

 

15. Listening Devices: CD players, iPods, MP3 players with/without headphones, or other listening devices are not allowed in class. These privileges are earned at the discretion of the individual teacher. Absolutely no devices with cameras are allowed.

 

16. Lock down drill/incident: Students need to respond quickly and calmly when they hear a school-wide announcement for a LOCK DOWN. Students in the hallways need to go to the nearest room with a Teacher/Staff member and stay there until the drill is over. Students in class or in an otherwise supervised situation need to remain calm and follow the instruction given by staff quickly and in an orderly fashion.

 

17. Loss of Property: Students, regardless of age, who become truant or externally suspended; hide prohibited items; or are externally suspended during a school day will lose the privilege of receiving their property that is held by the school (i.e. cell phones, skate boards, etc.) The property will only be returned to a parent/guardian at the end of a school day (2:00-2:30) or before the school day begins (7:00-7:30). Alternate arrangements may be considered at discretion of Administration.

 

18. Lost Book Policy: The principal or his/her designee will collect all funds from student/ teachers and other persons as a result of lost or damaged books and/or materials.

 

19. Lost & Found: All lost and found articles should be taken to the Special Services Office.  Students are to report the loss of property to the office as soon as possible.

 

20. Lunch Program: Students’ lunches/breakfasts will be served on a daily basis from Milford School District for middle and high school students; and from Jacques Memorial School for elementary students. A designated staff member will bring the lunches to Project DRIVE. Any student ordering food will be expected to pay for it ahead of time. No student may charge lunch. Students may pay either daily, weekly (Monday of the preceding week), or monthly. Students who are eligible for reduced lunch will also be expected to pay for lunch on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Students who receive free lunch will also have the option of receiving a free breakfast. Students may also bring lunches from home. A refrigerator and microwave are available to students for preparing their meals.

 

21. Money: Students are not allowed to have more than $10 on them – if they bring in more than $10, a staff person will include written confirmation of the amount and place in a bag with the money. If they need the money to purchase lunch or something from the school store they will be allowed access to it.

 

22. On-Campus Statements: In order to protect the rights of students less than 18 years of age, law enforcement representatives will not be allowed to obtain statements from any student without receiving permission form the student’s parents in advance.

 

23. Possession of Weapons or Fireworks: Any student possessing weapons or fireworks will be subject to suspension or expulsion.

 

24. Prohibited Items: The following items are not allowed in Project DRIVE: lighters, matches, e-cigarettes, and vapors (and accessories).

 

25. Public Display of Affection: Public display of affection will not be tolerated at Project DRIVE.

 

26. Recording Devices: Any recording devices (cellphones, video, photo, sound) are prohibited without administration’s prior written approval.

 

27. Searches: All students are subject to searches when they enter and leave the building. This will be by means of a physical search and of a metal detector.

 

28. Signature – Responsible Party: Students who are eighteen (18) years or older and who are living with their parent(s) or guardian(s) are still required to have all notes or documents signed by a parent or guardian, including absence and dismissal.

 

29. Smoking/Vaping: Students are not permitted to smoke, use, or possess tobacco products on school property, in the school building, or at school-sponsored events. State Law prohibits smoking on public property. Police will be notified of all offenses.

 

30. Technology restrictions: Students are not allowed to touch any technology within the class unless they have PRIOR approval from a staff person. SMART Boards, computers, TV’s, etc. Students are only allowed on school approved sites.

 

31. Telephones: Students may use the phone at the discretion of the case manager only.

 

32. Truancy, Cutting Class/Leaving Building: Truancy, cutting of classes and leaving the building without permission will result in consequences.

 

33. Vandalism/Theft:  Students involved in vandalism or theft of school or personal property will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action and restitution for damage or loss and may face criminal prosecution. A report will be filed with the police.

 

34. Visitors: Visitors are only permitted after school hours or with prior permission from Staff.
